Job Description

What do AWS Cloud Developers actually do? A comprehensive job description.

22nd August 2023

They master one of the most important technologies in the IT world! Learn more about their To Do's and skills.

Digital transformation without the cloud? Unthinkable these days! More and more companies are moving their servers from their own data centres to the cloud, because cloud solutions offer numerous added values that enable them to hold their own in global competition, above all flexibility and scalability. In 2020 alone, the cloud computing market grew by more than 40 percent and global sales of services in the public cloud currently exceed 470 billion US dollars. In Germany, more than 84 percent of companies already use cloud services. And the trend is rising. This means that no future-proof company can do without cloud experts. Excellent starting conditions for a lateral entry into the IT spheres.

Cloud-first with the leader in cloud platforms: AWS

By the way, the cloud is a computer cloud that stores gigantic amounts of data. This data can be accessed at any time and any place. The owners of the computer cloud are cloud providers such as Amazon, Microsoft or Google. The global ranking of the world's largest cloud providers is led by Amazon Web Services, or AWS for short, with a turnover of around 22.1 billion US dollars. AWS is a very extensive platform for cloud computing services. These services can be divided into three different categories: Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS), Platform as a Service (PaaS) and Software as a Service (SaaS).

But in order to integrate sustainable business concepts and forward-looking technologies into companies (from start-ups to large corporations), one thing is needed above all: the people who can make this happen - cloud developers. Regardless of whether you have previous IT knowledge or not, it is always possible to make a lateral move into this field in order to learn the tools for working "in the cloud".

What are the tasks of AWS cloud developers?

In general, the AWS Cloud Development job description includes designing, building and maintaining AWS Cloud infrastructures and services. These are then also tested and optimized. The goal is to develop applications and services for businesses based on cloud technologies to implement scalable, secure and reliable solutions.

Key aspects of the job profile include:

  • Application Architecture: selecting and configuring a scalable and reliable application architecture

  • Cloud-native application development: maximizing scalability, resiliency and flexibility in the cloud

  • Cloud services integration: implementing specific capabilities in applications, such as storage, databases, and networking

  • Automation and DevOps: accelerating the development and deployment process using tools such as CI/CD (continuous integration/continuous deployment) pipelines

  • Security and compliance: implementing security policies, encryption, access controls, and compliance with industry regulations to ensure systems and applications are secure

  • Scalability and performance: scaling of resources as needed to ensure optimal performance and cost control

  • Monitoring and troubleshooting: monitoring application performance and availability, and quickly diagnosing and resolving errors to minimize downtime

  • Adapting to new technologies: staying on top of trends about new technologies, services, and best practices to develop the best possible solutions

Generally speaking, all AWS Cloud Developers are specialists in their own right. Why? Simple. Every company and every cloud requirement is different and therefore unique. Therefore, each job description for cloud professionals is never exactly the same. But of course there are certain basics that even IT newcomers without any technical knowledge can learn in our neue fische AWS Cloud Computing Bootcamp.

What skills are required?

Solid technical knowledge and hands-on experience with AWS are the basic requirements to be able to optimize AWS services for an enterprise. Furthermore, cloud experts should be able to effectively create, implement and scale APIs (Application Programming Interface). One of the most important and common programming languages in the AWS product portfolio is Python. However, soft skills such as flexibility and curiosity are also excellent qualities for cloud developers.

Skills at a glance:

  • Programming languages and scripting languages such as Python.

  • Knowledge in the administration of Windows and Linux systems

  • Basics in cloud architecture and security

  • Willingness to learn and flexibility

  • Solution-oriented work

At senior level and with the appropriate specialization, salaries can develop in the direction of €90,000. The majority of employees earn between €45,000 and €60,000 per year.

Green, Greener, Cloud

Digital technologies are an answer to the sustainability question. Because without technical innovations, climate change will not succeed! IT is needed to manage, live and work more ecologically. This also includes the cloud. Would you like a small example? Cloud solutions make it possible to work from the home office. Just by eliminating the daily commute, millions of tons of CO2 are avoided - traffic jams included. But that's just the beginning: professional cloud services instead of company-owned servers are another building block for the green solution. Those who keep documents, applications and programs available on platforms further reduce their ecological footprint.

You too can now contribute to a green future and "code" it as a cloud developer*. The job description has piqued your curiosity and you are wondering what you need to do? Show courage. Show stamina. And register for the neue fische bootcamp. Here and now! Code your own green future. 🌈
